Ingredients for Falafel

  • Chickpeas : 1 cup
  • Wheat Flour or Maida : 1 - 2 tbsp
  • Garlic : 4 -5 cloves
  • Onion : 1 medium (chopped)
  • Green Chili : 1
  • Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
  • Coriander Seeds : 2 tsp
  • Fresh Coriander Leaves : 1tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Baking Powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Oil : to deep fry
  • Tahini Sauce : to serve with

  • How to make Falafel

  • Wash and soak chickpeas in water for 6 hours.
  • Drain water and pet dry.
  • In a grinder / mixer, add chickpeas.
  • Add chopped garlic, green chilli, ginger, coriander leaves, salt, onion, cumin, coriander seeds and oil.
  • Grouns to make a fine paste.
  • Mix all purpose flour in it.
  • Divide the mix in small portions.
  • Shape every portion as tikki. 
  • Heat oil .
  • Deep fry falafel till golden brown from all the sides.
  • Falafel is ready.
  • Serve it hot with tahini sauce or any other sauce.

    Wash and soak the Chickpea in water overnight (6 - 8 hrs). Morning, drain the water and wrap chickpea in a cloth to dry the excess water. When chickpeas is dry , add chopped garlic, green chilli, ginger, onion, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and fresh chopped coriander leaves in it.

    Add oil in the mix and ground it to make a fine paste. This paste may be a little wet or moist, to make it dry we should add some flour in it. I have added maida / refined flour in it. We can also add wheat flour or rice flour as well. Now mix maida in the ground paste.

    Make small paties of this mix and keep them aside. 

    Heat oil in a deep pan to deep fry falafel. Oil should be medium hot. Leave falafel in it and deep fry. Check when bottom side turns golden brown in color. Now turn the side and fry evenly both sides.

    Falafel is ready. Have it with Tahini or with any sauce of choice.
