Why Should I eat Oats?


I eat oats and to some extent I like it too. But when someone suggests to eat Oats daily at least once a day is something which makes me curious about it. Why should I eat Oats daily?

I know, no, saying I know is wrong but I have heard that Oats is good for health and heart. It is also good for them who are trying to loose weight etc but I have never thought about what makes Oats so special that I should try incorporating in my food menu at least once a day, preferably breakfast. 

This curiosity lead me to internet where I was searching Oats related information. I searched on major information websites. Wikipedia and many more health related website. Wikipedia told a lot and I gathered information from other websites too.

After going through the information about Oats, i am now convinced that Oats really is good for health and its components make it special for them with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and overweight too. Here I am writing points about Oats and what makes it special. 
  • Oat or common oat is a cereal grain. The oats we buy arr rolled oats. 
  • Oats are 66% carbohydrates which includes 11% dietary fiber and 4% beta-glucans, 7% fat and 17% protein. 
  • Beta-glucan helps lowering the cholesterol level. Individuals who is dealing with high cholestrol should consume Oats for this. 
  • Oats has high fiber content which makes it a filling food. Fibers make us feel full for a longer time. Eating a bowl full of oats can make feel full till the lunch time. 
  • Oats are good for those dealing with diabetes, specially type 2 diabetes.
  • Oats helps weight loss as we feel full longer. Oats fiber helps fighting constipation. 
A 100 gm serving of oats provide 389 calories. 

Now, I think that these are the enough reasons to consume oats at least once in daily menu. I have thought of few oats recipes which i will be posting in the recipes section. Apart from that, there are other ways to consume oats. For example, we can make oat flour and mix it with wheat flour while kneading the dough. That way we can have a mix of flours to make chapati, a change for taste and good for health. 

 Also we can make oats smoothies. Or just in case, while making any smoothie, add one tsp of oats. We can make oats dosa, oats uttapam, oats cheela and there can be many more options to incorporate oats in our daily life. 

We get a lot of 2 minute Oats recipes in daily markets. They have high content of sugar. Instead it is good to cook it at home and get benefited. 

After reading all the information about oats, I am convinced that why should have oats daily. Hope it helps !!!
