Wash and peel beetroot. Cut beetroot into medium cubes. Now in a pan, bring 1 cup water to boil. Leave the beetroot cubes in it and cook in a covered pan for 5 - 7 minutes or check when beetroot is lighter in color.
Now take the beetroot cubes out and keep aside till it is on room temperature. Grate beetroot cubes and keep aside for later use in cake.

In a pan, take all purpose flour. Mix all the dry ingredients in it one by one. First lets mix coco powder in it.

Now we add powdered sugar in it. In this recipe, I have used powdered brown sugar. We can also use normal white sugar. In case powdered sugar is not available, just run it in mixture / grinder for few seconds. We should not crystal sugar in cake.
Now add baking powder. Mix all the ingredients well.

Now beat one egg in a bowl. Mix vanilla essence in it. Also add oil in it. Beat the mixture for few seconds.
Now mix all the wet and dry ingredients mix together.

Now add grated beetroot in it. Mix all the ingredients well. I felt after mixing that the cake better is very thick and bit dry, so I added 1/4 cup water in it to make it a smooth batter.

Now preheat the oven at 180 C. Grease a pan with few drops of oil. Sprinkle some all purpose flour or wheat flour in it to dust all the sides of pan. Once all the sides of baking pan are well coated in wheat flour, pour the beetroot chocolate cake batter in baking pan.
Place the baking pan in oven at center for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, cake will be ready. Baking time depends upon the size of baking dish and size of the oven. Insert a thin stick or knife in cake till bottom and pull it up. Check if the knife is clean after it comes out of cake. If the knife comes clean, cake is perfectly baked. If it does not come out clean, the bake it for few more minutes.

Once the cake is ready, keep the baking dish outside and let it cool down completely and then bring the cake out of baking dish.

    Beetroot Chocolate Cake is ready.
